Syracuse guard J.J. Starling and center Eddie Lampkin Jr. were named Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mentions, the conference announced Monday. Lampkin also earned one vote for the conference’s Most Improved Player award.
The Orange were one of seven teams to not have a player voted onto the conference’s first, second or third team.
Starling received 32 votes, the fifth most of any player voted an honorable mention. In his junior campaign, Starling ranked seventh in the conference in points per game with 17.5. Despite missing seven games due to a broken left hand, Starling has been SU’s leading scorer all season, shooting 40% from the field.
Lampkin started slow in his only year with the Orange but has remained consistent over the second half of the season. He received 19 votes, ranking last of the 10 players voted as honorable mentions.
Lampkin ranked second in the conference in rebounds per game at 9.6. With 11.6 points per game, Lampkin is having a career year in his fifth college season. He’s totaled 14 double-doubles on the season, including two games with 25-plus points and three games with 15 rebounds or more.
